• With the government’s commitment to spending on infrastructural development, there is growing demand for civil and construction works;
• There is a growing expenditure on air-conditioning maintenance for government buildings and hospitals;
• Large and important players in the industry;
• Our industry is divided into: a) general works that include grass cutting on roadsides and building renovations – work that does not necessarily need qualifications. These projects are usually below R 500 000. b) Civil engineering construction of roads, stadiums, bridges and drainage systems – that is work that requires highly skilled and qualified personnel. Its projects are usually over R 1 million;
• There are already signs of shortage of skilled workers. There is also threat having insufficient construction and building material; and
• This industry is still expected to grow fast for more than twenty years on due to the backlog on infrastructure in the townships and rural areas. The government is on a mission to address decades of neglect of these areas.
